OH MY GOD !!!! tysm for asking i have been losing my MIND bc i have no one to talk to this about. ok anyways so

basically! the story is set in a fictional country based off of imperial china, and it follows the main character maomao who was abducted and sent to work as a servant in this place called the rear palace. 

the rear palace is where all the emperors concubines live and its meant to be where all the royal children are raised—currently, however, the only two children are very very ill, and the cause is unknown. except!!! before coming to the palace, maomao was trained as an apothecary by her father (hence. the title) and because of her love and knowledge of all things poison (seriously. she loves poison. she tests them out on herself to build up a tolerance.) she figures out the cause of the illness, and to thank her, one of the head concubines makes her a lady-in-waiting!! promotion!!

after that point maomao becomes a Poison Taster (her dream job frfr) and she alsooo becomes the go-to person for solving all the mysteries within the palace. (at first, most of them seem like small one-and-done issues, but they all build up to a larger overarching convoluted plot and it’s just. SO interesting.) the series basically follows her as she navigates the politics of the era and how her place as a servant affects how much she can accomplish (though i will say. she gets a lot of special treatment. the higher ups love her.)

i feel like i’m not really doing the show justice in my explanation but!!! it’s genuinely SO funny and interesting and maomao is honestly one of the most well written main characters i’ve seen in a LONGGG time. shes so smart and observant and has incredible problem solving skills but also at the same time shes a fucking freak obsessed with poisons and she knows way too much abt the Mechanics of Sex thanks to growing up in a brothel. she gives the concubines sex ed. literally who is doing it like her 

ALSOOO i cannot talk abt the apothecary diaries without talking abt jinshi and maomao’s relationship with him. they’re a slow burn (!!!!! everyone cheered) and it’s SOOO good because they’re slowly getting to know each other as people and discovering new facets of each other and they’re falling in loveeee ugh losers. tee bee ech their bond kinda transcends normal romantic or even platonic attraction it’s just. pure love for each other as people. they take care of each other. but also at the same time they’re fucking dumbasses & i think some of the FUNNIEST scenes in the show come from their interactions.

(jinshi especially is like. the best love interest ive seen in a while. first of all his hair is fucking PURPLE which is so sick but also because here’s this guy who’s competent at his job and uses his charms to his advantage but also at the same time—with maomao especially—he’s just. an eighteen year old guy. biggest loser to ever exist. scandalized and jealous and melodramatic. i would die for him.)

anyway!!! erm that got rlly long im sure you were expecting a way shorter response but like. i truly cannot shut up abt this show. if you wanna watch it’s on netflix or your local piracy site. it fucking slaps.

Alright you know what for the hell of it I am going to post multiple art posts within the span of minutes. I'm always making some sort of image. This one's about my fan continuity! I've been wanting to retouch my designs since first making them because I felt they could use more character and better fit their characterization within DS.

I do actually have quite a bit of development about Deception Shattered I'm just very shy. Argh. To put it short, DS's stating idea was about the corruption of Megatron's ideals and how it led to the Decepticons falling apart from the inside. Orion Pax and Megatron used to work together as political activists-- but Megatron got violent in response to the continuously harsh and brutal treatment lower caste Cybertronians were getting. Four million years of unchecked power and violence later, Megatron has changed from someone wanting to better his world to someone who is cruel for the sake of cruelty.

I'm sure some people who follow me have spotted that Soundwave has the autobrand instead of being a Decepticon- and that's because I wanted to play with his character some! Famously 'the most loyal Decepticon' I wanted to see what would happen if Soundwave cared more about his cassettes than anything else. (Skybound 100% influenced me here I'm not even going to pretend it didn't) He may be loyal to the Decepticons, but when Megatron starts getting what few remaining Cassettes Soundwave has left killed, he can't stay any longer. He spends a long time drifting as an unaligned Cybertronian before joining the Autobots. Other things about him, Soundwave sounds the way he does because before the war broke out he was attacked by a higher caste Cybertronian. He's almost entirely blind for a completely different reason, because Megatron plugged his brain into a Decepticon warship and it fried all of his systems. Soundwave's lucky to even be alive after that happened to him.

Some other assorted thoughts-- Ratchet might not be dead (Hooray for all yall who are distraught over my optiratch valentines art!) but certainly has been through a lot at the hands of Shockwave. Some characters who are in my roster but have yet to be designed are: Jazz, Prowl, Elita-One, Arcee, Rumble, Frenzy, Ravage, Laserbeak, Hot Rod/Rodimus, Ultra Magnus (and Minimus too), and more!

i picked the fool card for my collage because for my whole life everytime a card has represented me in a reading it's been the fool!!! that guy follows me around forever so i've grown a soft spot for it

Okay wait this has been sitting in my askbox forever for reasons that will swiftly become apparent bc like. The Fool is literally my favorite tarot card, I've only ever gotten one reading done tho and I don't think he was in it? I just love its symbolic value as a card abt the beginning of a journey and taking a reckless step forward. As someone who rly hates getting out of their comfort zone hes kind of an adventurous ideal.... I actually want to get a tattoo of the fool on my bicep surrounded by some symbolic plants I've picked out. I ALSO have this rly nice gold necklace with a tiny gold fool card on it. Which I wanted to take a photo of to respond to this but I don't wear it as often as my silver axe so I keep forgetting. Anyways. All that to say love the Fool

guys please the autism is too strong i need rules and regulations. i want more media exploring the social consequences of being trapped in a child's body but living lifetimes. how does maturity work? can the trapped person be a true adult despite not physically having a brain developed to its fullest extent? (i mean, brains are always developing, but ykwim) what would their interpersonal relationships look like? wouldn't it be damaging, hurtful, alienating to be treated like a child when you're not? to be expected to be innocent and naive or whatever when you've lived longer than some of the people who are talking to you?

if you think about it this isn't as specific as it sounds. if a teenager is caught in a timeloop, and spends years of their time learning and growing as a person, would they still be a teenager when they escape the loop? they might still look like one, but aren't they a different person now? older? what if they've gone to college, gotten a degree or several? would they be considered worthy of that? ready for that?

if a child becomes a ghost, and then spends years befriending a living child, watching them grow up, could they act like two adult friends when the living one is older? would the ghost child still be childish? would the relationship be strained by the ghost's appearance, or would the ghost be stuck acting like a child forever?

and that begs the question, what the hell are these kid ghosts in media doing with themselves??? i mean if they've had dozens of years with nothing to do, wouldn't they change over time?? i'm tired of ghost kids who act like they're the same age they were when they died. they might look like it and sound like it but if you give a six year old endless time and resources they will eventually learn shit, right? could a six year old, given years to grow in nurture if not in nature, act like a teenager after eight or ten years of ghosthood?

i want answers. i want examples. i want to be able to speculate on these things without being asked if i support shipping ghost kids with living adults or whatever. i AM intrigued by the implications of relationships of all types between immortal children and mortals of all ages. i want to be able to actually explore what that would mean, and idk im kind of frustrated that it's difficult to explain myself. drop your hottest takes in the comments below or whatever.
